Position Summary

The Portfolio Manager will provide portfolio management leadership and expertise to enable the organization to achieve strategic objectives. This individual will centrally manage one or more portfolios of programs or projects that may not necessarily be interdependent or directly related. The selected candidate will facilitate planning, strategy, risk, resource balancing, and performance assessment activities and reporting with project teams under the leadership directive of the CSO and General Manager. The Portfolio Manager will engage subject matter experts and functional project managers to integrate portfolio planning, project performance assessments, corporate risk management, and enterprise resource planning.

Responsibilities

Job performance will involve a variety of activities including:

  • Provide strategic information and expertise to guide organizational investment decisions to select the optimal mix of programs and projects to meet strategic objectives
  • Track program budgets against desired plan and propose corrective actions when not tracking to plan.
  • Provide proposed project plans and budgets for diagnostic business development team based on partner specific diagnostic and trial specifics
  • Work directly with program specific project managers to gather information and meet timelines
  • Provide decision-making transparency
  • Prioritize team and physical resource allocations
  • Increase the likelihood of realizing the desired return on investment
  • Roll up entire program into concise status updates for management
  • Centralize the management of the aggregate risk profile of all components
  • Maximize the value of the portfolio though careful examination of the components that comprise the portfolio, their relative priorities, and financial, headcount, and physical resource needs
  • Effective verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders including clients and regulators
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Support project teams through the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/control, and closing of their projects by providing sound project/program/portfolio management expertise and coaching
  • Facilitate issue and risk management in collaboration with the General Manager and project/program teams
  • Support the implementation of standard project and business management processes and tools. These processes and tools may include the development, monitor, and control of integrated timelines, budgets, risk management plans, communication plans, and business process maps
  • Generate or integrate project specific metrics/reports and analyzing options and opportunities to optimize the project/program team’s productivity
  • Collect data for and prepare accurate management of governance committee updates on project status using appropriate templates and tools
  • Establish, maintain and use information repositories and collaboration sites
  • Identify and mitigate organizational risks
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of project management skills, tools, and processes in areas such as timeline, cost, and risk management
  • Proficiency with standard project management software and enterprise resourcing planning

Experience

  • Must have experience operating at multiple levels of organizational project management including individual projects, programs, and portfolios
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the diagnostic or pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven ability to coordinate multifaceted projects, including multitasking, deliverables management and timeline management
  • Demonstrate ability to work within a commercial environment and influence with and without authority in a cross functional role
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic clinical trial operations, logistics, and cGMP assay manufacturing.
  • Experience in the project management of regulated software a plus

Education

  • BS or MS or PhD preferred with relevant training in Chemistry, Manufacturing, computer science and/or Biological Sciences or equivalent experience
  • MBA or relevant business experience a plus
  • Project management certification (PMP®, PRINCE2®) or equivalent
